it feels like a nightmare...

i've been visiting de hospital lately...life really hasn't been as sunny as before.

while i welcome my godson lucas and was overjoyed 2 weeks ago (26/5), this week i have to brave myself with news that my mama is down with breast cancer.

when i first heard the news over the phone (6/6), i keep asking myself if i'm having a nightmare (in my head: someone, pls slap me to wake me up, pls). seriously, i wish i wasn't in reality.

while i pick myself up, i started to read up online about the illness, esp when my elder siblings are not in town. i told myself to stay strong, take good care of my mum, and ensure my family copes well with the sudden news.

these are good cancer foods:
1) Tomatoes
2) Blueberries
3) Red cabbage, red beets
4) Spinach **
5) Garlic **
6) Whole wheat
7) Oranges
8) Strawberries
9) Beans (esp soya beans) **
10) Olive oil **
** esp for breast cancer

i also have to encourage my mum to take high fiber foods... fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains (bread, flour, rice, dark brown sugar), and avoid salt. she has to stay physically active and maintain healthy weight to build her immunity.

i'm planning to get iPad 2 for her to play games, and e-cigarettes to help her cut down smoking and eventually quit someday.

having read tuesdays with morrie, i learn to cherish every moment with my beloved mum now. what's important is not how long more she can or will live, but how happy she can be in the days ahead. understand that the treatment period will be the most demoralising period for a cancer patient. its high time for me to spend more time with her and my family.

i'm thankful now that i'm not selected for the US trip. perhaps this is what was planned for me.

frenz, pls send your parents for regular checkups (if they are above 50 years old), as certain illness are difficult to detect. force them if you really need to. apparently breast cancer affects 1 in 17 women in singapore. early detection is often less complicated and easier to cure.

thank you all who have asked and cared for me in one way or another. i will take good care of myself. if you would like to help me, do share with me anything i should take note of.
